Bullies

Bullies have been described as:
   - callous, cold and calculating
   - devious, clever and cunning
   - ruthless in the extreme
   - regarding people as objects and playthings to be discarded
   - sociopaths, displaying zero empathy
   - completely without conscience, remorse and guilt
   - malicious and evil

This is a bit extreme for most bullies, perhaps. But sometimes they seem all this and more. I know I've thought these things about bullies I have known.

But is this fair? Bullies are not nice people, but they are people. Can you recognize the humanity in the bully even as they deny us our own humanity? It’s not easy, but there is no doubt bullies are damaged people -- as we all are.

Perhaps this perspective can help you deal with your own personal bullies in a more effective manner.

"We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies."
-- Martin Luther King, Jr.
"Bullying is never about their target. It's about how insecure the Bully feels."
"Bullying exists because of a lack of adult intervention."
"Bullies thrive on secrecy, shame, and the silence of others."
"Why do Bullies bully? Because management and their co-workers allow them to."        (from a variety of people)
